OLIVE ROSALINE GOERTZEN
May 7, 1940 – April 24, 2019
Olive Rosaline Goertzen (Hughes) passed away peacefully April 24, 2019 at the age of 78 in Drayton Valley, Alberta.
Olive was born May 7, 1940 in Lethbridge, Alberta. She was the oldest of four girls. Olive is survived by her husband Jerry, as well as her sons Dale, Dean, David, Darwyn, and Duane and their spouses. Ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; two sisters Josephine and Marion and their families; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Olive enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, camping, and volunteering. She spent countless hours helping out at the church, with the Right of Christian Initiation of Adults and the Catholic Women’s League, and was a passionate volunteer for Cardium Region Victim Services. She found joy in giving to others. Her home was always open to both two-legged and four-legged friends. She was always ready to have a coffee and lend an ear to anyone in need. She always found the good qualities in people and time was never an issue when you visited.
Olive was predeceased by her parents Walter and Delma Hughes and her sister Lavern Stangland.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Anthony RC Church, Drayton Valley. Interment in the Rocky Rapids Cemetery.
