Hesselbarth, Harold Siegfried
July 2, 1946 – February 11, 2020
It is with great sadness that the family of Harold Siegfried Hesselbarth announce his passing on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at the age of 73 years. Harold, known to his friends as “Hotbuns & The Baker” will be lovingly remembered by his wife, June, of 54 years and his children, Stacey (Christine), Gina (Norman). Also missed by his five grandchildren whom he cherished, Dalton (Shalyn), Madison, Grayson, Carson, Kaia and by his sisters-in-law, Rae, Irene (Jim), Betty (Mark), Tammy and numerous nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by his Mother and Father, Walter and Annie and two brothers Siegmar and Egon.
Harold was born July 2, 1946 in Marktschorgast, Germany and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1958, settling in the Violet Grove area. When he was 17 he followed his brother to the west coast where he worked for CNR in Prince Rupert, BC and where he met the love of his life, June.
After starting a family, they returned to Alberta in 1969 where Harold began his baking career and proprietorship of the Drayton Bakery, initially in partnership with his father and eventually with his wife over a 33-year span. With June taking over the Baking duties Harold was able to advance his baking career and head to camp life in Ft McMurray for the last 10 years before retiring.
“Work Hard, Play Hard” was Harold’s way of life. He was passionate for golf, curling, friends and family and being the ‘life of the party”. His unforgettable sense of humor will be missed, as he was never short of a one-liner.
A service Celebrating Harold’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 25, at 1:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, Drayton Valley.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Harold’s memory to The Lung Association, P.O. Box 4700, Stn. South, Edmonton, AB T6E 9Z9 or a charity of your choice.
