MABEL MYRTLE NELSON
September 9, 1936 – August 31, 2020
Peacefully and quietly, on August 31, 2020 at the age of 83 years, Mabel Nelson passed away while residing at Bethany Collegeside in Red Deer, Alberta.
Mabel started her journey September 9th, 1936 born to May and Amos Blakeman in Goodridge, Alberta. She went on to meet and marry the love of her life Lloyd Nelson September 11th, 1952 at St. Paul United Church. While building their family Mabel lived in different communities, St.Paul, Grand Centre briefly, only to settle in Buck Creek on the farm from (1955-1975) later to move to the Drayton Valley area (1975-2012) and then to her final resting place in Red Deer from (2012-2020).
Mabel was blessed with a large family who loved her dearly. Her hobby’s included camping, fishing, gardening, canning, playing cards as well as frequent trips to the city to play BINGO! Mabel also treasured time caring for her grandchildren, always there for hugs and kisses. She was always eager to put a meal on the table and swap stories with friends and family who would stop by. Having an open door and a friendly smile her table was always full.
She is survived by her children; Ken (Carolyn), Myrt (Don) Regenwetter, Garry (Laura), Don (Phyllis), Clarence, Harold (Cheryl), Derek (Lori), 22 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, sister Mary-Ann Blakeman, sister in law Rose-Mary Blakeman, sister in law Linda Blakeman, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mabel was predeceased by her parents May and Amos Blakeman, her husband Lloyd, daughter Caron, son Kim, grandson Clayton, daughter in law Beryl, brothers; Norman Blakeman, Bill Blakeman and Eldon Blakeman, sisters; Ida Gamblin, Birdie Gamblin, Grace Kostyshyn, Ethel Jensen and 4 infant brothers.
Funeral Services for Mabel will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Whitby Hall with Pastor Randy Rye officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Due to the current COVID restrictions this will be a private family service.
